DIET is a 4-Letter Word, and so is DEBT

Here at LH2 we are committed to encouraging others to live a healthy lifestyle. This lifestyle also includes financial fitness. These days, however,  financial fitness may seem to be a distant, pie-in-the-sky dream, an illusion, or enigma.  With joblessness at an all time high and protests against big corporations and certain governments, we’re hard pressed not to be tempted to believe that the American Dream is defunct. But as 18th century social reformer Thomas Fowell Buxton stated, “With ordinary talent and extraordinary perseverance, all things are attainable.” Yes, that means financial stability, too – even today.

In my quest for my own financial fitness, I sought practical advice from The Money Coach – Lynette Khalfani-Cox. During a time that I lacked proper financial education, Mrs. Khalfani-Cox offered just what I needed in the book, Zero Debt: The Ultimate Guide to Financial Freedom.
Below she offers solid counsel in Daily Finance for those who have established a plan but grow weary with the execution of that plan.

1) Create a realistic budget. Don’t be so restrictive. It’s just like a restrictive meal plan, how likely are you to follow a diet without the occassional Hershey’s Kiss?
2) Make the process of saving fun. Start a ‘dream’ fund or make a contest of it.
3) Include something fun in your budget. Dinner and a movie, YMCA membership for the family, or some other activity that you enjoy.
4) Adopt the right mindset to stay debt free and on track financially.

Financial fitness is a lifestyle. We stated it earlier that D-I-E-T is a four-letter word.  The same is true for D-E-B-T. Let’s incorporate the terms nutrition for diet and budget for debt.
